Villa nahi mila… :(

Woodstock Villa…Sikandar Kher’s debut vehicle runs out of fuel almost as soon as the viewer steps on the accelerator. Its just one more thriller(wannabe thriller at that) that borrows bits and pieces from Fida,Murder and many others from the same genre.

Jatin’s (Arbaaz Khan) wife Zara (Neha Uberoi) disappears one night. She has been kidnapped. The captor, Samir (Sikandar Kher) demands a ransom, but things go wrong as the wife is murdered. The captor buries the body at a secluded spot. But the mystery only deepens after police start investigating the case.

I do not know what Hansal Mehta was thinking when he agreed to direct this disaster. The story is so predictable that even the dumbest viewer would know what is going to happen in the next frame. There are a few sequences which aren’t that bad but more on that later…..

Sikandar Kher is hopeless. He’s got extremely mediocre looks, no charisma, no acting skill and is a hopeless dancer. So its strange that his introduction is done through a pathetic song in which he tries very hard to dance. ) Neha Uberoi is wooden as well, but much better looking than him. But didn’t someone tell her, that just dancing in skimpy outfits and a few exposing shots don’t get you credit for acting. Arbaaz Khan in a small role was comparatively much better. He looks like the rich businessman and doesn’t try too hard to act. Comes across as a natural. Shakti Kapoor, Sachin Khedekar, Gaurav Gera and Dayashankar Pande are all wasted. Everyone of them could’ve been given a better role, but the story is in such a hurry to end that they get no scope at all.

Lets see some positive side:
1) The sequence before the credits is pretty decent and fast. It actually gives the feeling of a good thriller.
2) The movie is much more bearable post interval. The scene after Sikandar follows Arbaaz is well timed.
3) Background score by Amar Mohile is OUTSTANDING. Its possibly THE reason why I sat through the film. The background score is fast, with good pauses and tries very hard to bring edge-of-the-seat anxiety. Alas, it is failed by a poor script.

Negatives outdo the positives:
1) Cinematography is hopeless. I appreciate the whole grainy look….no problem with that but seriously its so jerky that the viewer’s head starts spinning after a few scenes.
2) The kidnap sequence mystery unfolds a little too soon….could’ve been longer.
3) Each and every song in the film is useless. It neither contributes to the story nor is it good to hear. I think instead of songs they should’ve worked harder on character sketches.
4) Character sketches are very very very poor. We know zilch about Sikandar’s past, though he’s the protagonist. Come on guys, we need some sneak peek into his past life be it in a super fast 2 minute scene. Ditto for Neha Uberoi. No explanations about the kind of person she is. Nothing at all.
5) Every good ‘whodunit thriller’ thrives on great suspense…..a bolt from the blue is necessary. In Woodstock Villa, every upcoming scene is predictable.
6) The climax is the worst i’ve seen for long. Its so damn predictable. I mean, there could not have been any other ending to the film. Seriously poor writing. Even a novice would do a better job.
7) Gaurav Gera hands Sikandar the keys to his car…..we can clearly see that the key has a Hyundai logo on it……and still Mr.Alexander(Sikandar in English ) ) drives around in a Pajero!! D What was that??

Overall this is one of the worst films from White Feather. Hell, even Musafir was better. Highly recommended if you’re crazy about poor scripts, pathetic songs and half-baked, wooden caricatures.
